Iloprost Chemoprevention

(00:01:45) Elsevier Global Medical News, 2009 Aug 3, R Finn

Dr. Robert Keith is Assistant Professor of Medicine, the University of Colorado, Denver.

Daily use of oral iloprost, a synthetic form of prostacyclin, significantly improved endobronchial dysplasia in former cigarette smokers. Results of a 152-patient, phase II, placebo-controlled trial presented by Dr. Robert Keith at the 2009 World Conference on Lung Cancer, showed histologic evidence of improvement in all stages of dysplasia. Characterizing iloprost as a “promising agent for cancer chemoprevention,” Dr. Keith said the agent warrants testing in a larger phase III trial.
