Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale Discusses Where We are Today With Personalized Medicine

(00:07:43) EJC News Focus, 2011 Sept 1

Personalized medicine is set to be one of the key themes at the forthcoming European Multidisciplinary Congress (Stockholm, Sweden; 23-27 September, 2011). In this month's EJC News Focus, EMCC Scientific Co-Chair Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale discusses progress made so far, but also explores the limitations of current approaches.

One fundamental problem, she says, is that genomic analysis is conducted on tissue samples removed by surgery, rather than on cancer cells in vivo. She outlines a vision for the future in which a patient’s cancer genome could be elucidated from a simple scan.
