RT/HT Combo Halves Prostate Ca Mortality

(00:01:57) Elsevier Global Medical News, 2008 Sept 26, N Osterweil

Dr. Anders Widmark is Professor of Radiation Oncology, Umea University, Umea, Sweden.

A phase III randomized trial of ~900 men with localized prostate cancer found that adding radiotherapy to neoadjuvant hormonal therapy (total androgen blockade followed by continuous antiandrogen therapy) cut prostate cancer-specific mortality from 18% to 8.5% and resulted in only a slight increase in adverse effects.
