Panitumumab Skin Toxicity

(00:03:55) Elsevier Global Medical News, 2009 Jun 1, D McNamara

Dr. Edith Mitchell is Program Leader in Gastrointestinal Oncology, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia.

Prophylaxis with a skin care regimen and an oral antibiotic significantly reduced skin toxicity in patients receiving the epidermal growth factor inhibitor panitumumab plus chemotherapy for colon cancer, reported Dr. Mitchell at the 2009 ASCO meeting. The prophylactic regimen, which consisted of twice-daily administration of Lubriderm, a topical moisturizer; 1% hydrocortisone cream; sunscreen for those planning to be outdoors; and oral doxycycline, was started 24 hours prior to initiation of panitumumab/chemotherapy and was continued for the duration of treatment.
