Progestins Reduce Cancer Biomarker in Women With Lynch Syndrome

SAN FRANCISCO (EGMN) - After 3 months on oral contraceptives or Depo-Provera, 51 women with Lynch syndrome had reduced proliferation of the cancer biomarker Ki-67. "We think this [finding] provides some preliminary evidence to support the use of oral contraceptives or progestins as a chemopreventive for Lynch syndrome," Dr. Karen Lu of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston said in an interview at the annual meeting of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists.
