Pfizer is exploring a possible role for its top-selling multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor Sutent (sunitinib) in subsets of patients with non-small cell lung cancer after the drug failed to meet its overall survival endpoint in combination with Roche/Genentech's Tarceva in a Phase III trial. Sutent is already approved for gastrointestinal stromal tumor after disease progression or intolerance to imatinib and for advanced/metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
