Women younger than age 45 years who were treated with lumpectomy and radiation for ductal carcinoma in situ were 68% more likely than were older women to have a local recurrence, a large population-based study found.After a median follow-up of 8.5 years, women aged 44 and younger had a recurrence rate of 20%, compared with a 12% recurrence rate in those aged 45-50 years, the retrospective study showed.
