On October 19, the US Food and Drug Administration announced its approval of pazopanib (Votrient) for advanced kidney cancer, making the oral antiangiogenic agent the sixth drug to be approved for kidney cancer by the agency since 2005. Pazopanib is intended for people with advanced renal cell carcinoma, a type of kidney cancer in which the cancerous cells are found in the lining of very small tubes (tubules) in the kidney.
