Dr. Ramaekers earned an undergraduate degree in biology at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine. In June 2009 he will complete a fellowship in oncology/hematology at UNMC, after which he plans to enter community practice. During his oncology training, one of his mentors has been Dr. James Armitage. Dr. Ramaekers is married and has 3 children. He enjoys photography and outdoor activities with his family.
