Adjuvant Bevacizumab in Colon Ca

Dr. Normal Wolmark is Chairman of Human Oncology, Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.

Full results of the much-anticipated National Surgical Adjuvant National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) C-08 trial, presented by Dr. Wolmark at the plenary session of this year’s ASCO, showed the failure of bevacizumab to significantly improve disease-free survival rate at 3 years in patients with early-stage colon cancer. Although these results are disappointing, Dr. Wolmark discusses the important lessons learned about how to use bevacizumab "to optimal efficacy" in the adjuvant setting that can be studied in a future NSABP trial.
