Paclitaxel is a schedule-dependent chemotherapeutic agent. This phase III trial in advanced ovarian cancer confirms this finding in yet another disease setting, showing that standard carboplatin plus continuous weekly paclitaxel at 80 mg/m2 results in a PFS and an OS advantage. While the weekly paclitaxel regimen used in this study was not strictly dose dense according to the conventional definition of a standard dose given more frequently, it did result in a higher total dose intensity per cycle. It would thus appear that weekly paclitaxel dosing should be adopted as the standard of care in ovarian cancer.
