Median survival for men with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) ranges from 12.2 to 21.7 months. Docetaxel is the only systemic therapy shown to improve survival in these patients, conferring an overall survival (OS) benefit of 2 to 3 months when compared with mitoxantrone and prednisone. In a preliminary study (n = 127), the active cellular immunotherapy agent sipuleucel-T was shown to reduce the risk of death by 41% when compared with placebo.
