Bevacizumab is approved for use as first-line treatment for patients with unresectable, locally advanced, recurrent or metastatic non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) when combined with carboplatin and paclitaxel. Among patients with advanced NSCLC, 30% to 40% will develop brain metastasis, which confers a poor prognosis. Patients with NSCLC and brain metastasis have been excluded from clinical trials of bevacizumab because of concerns of increased risk of intracranial hemorrhage. Although selected...
