In patients with nonseminomatous germ-cell tumors (NSGCT) who have extensive lung metastases, induction chemotherapy may lead to complications typical of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). These complications include intra-alveolar hemorrhage, tumor necrosis, and subsequent superinfection promoted by neutropenia.
