Breast cancers that express or amplify genes of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) typically are more aggressive and are associated with a poor prognosis. Trastuzumab, which is an anti-HER2 humanized monoclonal antibody, improves survival compared with chemotherapy alone in patients with HER2+ metastatic breast cancer.
