In patients with solid cancers, peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) have been linked to a high incidence of catheter-related deep venous thromboses (DVTs) (range, 5.7%–12%), but there is little information on the incidence of PICC-related DVTs in patients with hematologic malignancies. Prophylactic anticoagulation, used to reduce the risk of catheter-associated DVTs in patients with solid tumors, is risky in patients with hematologic cancers due to their chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia....
