Although the approved dose of imatinib for treating advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is 400 mg/d, the highest feasible dose has been identified as 800 mg/d. Two large, randomized, phase III cooperative group studies using the same protocol─the European/Australian study (EU-AUS) and the United States/Canadian study (US-CDN)─were conducted to determine the best dose.
