Chronic human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with an increased risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL), and Burkitt lymphoma (BL). This risk may be related to loss of control of viruses such as Epstein Barr virus (EBV), which arises from immune dysregulation.
