In this randomized phase III study of 657 patients (age, 17 to 60 years) who had treatment-naïve acute myeloid leukemia, induction therapy with cytarabine plus high-dose daunorubicin (90 mg) was associated with a higher rate of complete remission than was cytarabine plus daunorubicin at the standard dose (45 mg). Toxicity did not increase significantly with the higher daunorubicin dose.
