Purine nucleoside analog-based therapy, such as fludarabine, is often used as first-line therapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Randomized studies comparing fludarabine plus cyclophosphamide (FC) (often with rituximab) have shown that FC significantly improves several outcomes, but not survival.
