Biographical Sketch:  
Dr. Howard I. Scher is Chief of the Genitourinary Oncology Service and first incumbent of the D. Wayne Calloway Chair in Urologic Oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Center for Prostate and Urologic Cancers, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Scher is also Professor of Medicine at the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University. 

Dr. Scher’s work focuses on the development of mechanism-based treatments for prostate cancer, including novel drugs targeting the androgen receptor and other signaling pathways that contribute to prostate cancer growth. He has a particular interest in noninvasive methods to assess the pharmacodynamic effects of these agents, the identification and validation of biomarkers, and clinical trial design.

 

Dr. Scher has been the lead investigator for various prostate cancer studies. Currently, he is the principal investigator of the Prostate Cancer Clinical Trial Consortium sponsored by the US Department of Defense. Dr. Scher has published articles in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including Cancer ResearchClinical Cancer ResearchThe Journal of Urology, and Journal of Clinical Oncology. He serves on the editorial boards of Prostate Cancer and Prostatic DiseasesThe Oncologist, and The Prostate. Dr. Scher has received numerous honors and awards, including the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Teaching Excellence Award, the Donald S. Coffey-Prostate Cancer Foundation Physician-Scientist Award, and the Distinguished Alumnus Award, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
